We are pleased to announce the new Archbishop of Perth, Most Rev. Timothy Costelloe S.D.B. D.D. to succeed Archbishop Barry James Hickey. Pope Benedict XVI made the official announcement in Rome at noon, 7:00 pm WST today. Born in Melbourne, Archbishop-designate Costelloe was ordained to the priesthood on 25 October 1986 at St. Peter’s Church in East Bentleigh, Victoria. He was Parish Priest of St. Joachim’s Parish in Victoria Park from 1996 to 1999, while teaching Systematic Theology at Notre Dame University in Fremantle and doing his doctoral studies at the time. He was personal theologian to Archbishop Barry Hickey at the Synod for Oceania in November 1998. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him as Titular Bishop of Cluain Iraird (Clonard), Ireland, and Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne on 30 April 2007, and he was consecrated in the same year on 15 June. He will officially take possession of the Archdiocese on 21 March 2012.
The parish asks for God’s blessings upon Archbishop-designate Costelloe in his new role in continuing his works for the Church. Go to our sources, the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth and The Faith Centre for more details.
